Last week, the city of Glendale approved an ordinance that would prohibit panhandling.
City officials say the initiative is designed to address traffic and pedestrian safety concerns that arise from solicitation activities. Vice Mayor Jamie Almada voted for the measure.
“We want to prevent any accidents, injuries or death. Forget about the violations. We don't even want to get there. This makes Glendale a safer place," he said.
The ordinance prohibits solicitation by aggressive means in public areas, within public transportation vehicles and within fifty feet of monetary institutions or businesses.
The law will go into effect next month.
