Lawyers for the GOP are asking a Maricopa County Superior Court judge to order the Board of Supervisors to make adjustments to requirements for election workers. Attorneys claim there is no legal basis for the request.
GOP attorneys contend that things like the required hours deter party members from signing up. They also claim that reducing those hours would help.
The Republican-controlled county Board of Supervisors say easing the hours would end up requiring them to hire double the amount of workers however .
Attorney Daniel Arellano said the Republican party is failing to explain why those requirements only deter workers from their party and not Democratic members as well, as they apply to both parties equally.
Arellano is asking the judge to toss the lawsuit because the GOP waited a month before the elections before filing the suit. No date is set for the hearing.
