Arizona Theatre Company is leaving the Herberger, moving to Tempe Center for the Arts

The Arizona Theatre Company has been performing plays and musicals at the Herberger Theater Center in downtown Phoenix since its opening in 1989. But the theater company is shifting its productions to a new location.

After more than 30 years of holding productions at the Herberger, the Arizona Theatre Company is moving east, to the Tempe Center for the Arts.

“The theater company itself is going to be coming into the main theater, which is a 600-seat theater. No seat is further than 55 feet away from a Broadway-size stage," said Brendan Ross, the deputy community services director of arts and culture for the city of Tempe.

Paula Taylor, the chief development and marketing officer for the Arizona Theatre Company, says the location is where many of supporters are from.

“The majority of our subscribers hail from the East Valley, Scottsdale, Tempe, in those areas. So we see this as serving our current community base," she said ays.

Taylor also says future theatergoers can expect a return to bigger and more exciting theater productions in a rebound from the coronavirus pandemic. Current Arizona Theatre Company offerings can still be seen at the Herberger through mid July 2023.
