ASU receives grant from National Institutes of Health to support minority students

ASU has received a new $1.2 million grant over five years to support underrepresented minority students who have undergraduate degrees in computer science, mathematics or statistics.

The National Institutes of Health will provide the grant to underrepresented minority students wanting training in genomics and bioinformatics. The Training in Genomics Research (TiGeR) program at the university’s New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences is aimed at students studying STEM-related courses.

The goal is to help genomics research, a growing field of biology related to mapping genes and developing better diagnostics to identify and treat disease. The grant will cover items like tuition and travel expenses to conferences. Students who wish to apply to the program should look look at the ASU website.
