Election integrity is on the minds of a number of Arizona voters this November. Calls have been made across the state for counties to do a hand count of ballots rather than a tabulation through machines.
However, such a request carries legal consequences as pointed out by Pinal County Attorney Kent Volkmer.
“Doing the hand count would be a violation of law. I can all but guarantee we would be sued by multiple parties and we would be very unlikely to win," he said.
Volkmer spoke with other officials and consulted with legal resources to confirm hand counting would breach the law.
Supervisors in Cochise County are still considering doing a hand count audit of all ballots.
