Arizona State University continues to expand its footprint in the Valley. The latest addition includes a media-production facility in downtown Mesa.
ASU at Mesa City Center first opened its doors to students in August, but on Friday, university and city officials gathered to commemorate its grand opening. The facility houses the MIX Center for film and media studies and space to support local entrepreneurs. ASU President Michael Crow said the center will let students find ways to be creative with digital technology.
“Our hope is, with this project, that we will have industries clustering in Mesa, we’ll have creative enterprises clustering in Mesa, we’ll have more educational opportunities clustering in Mesa," he said.
Mayor John Giles said the state-of-the-art facility solidified the Innovation District of Mesa as a place for “education, entrepreneurship, and community collaboration.”
