Pumpkins signify fall and Halloween. But on the first day of November, many are now looking to get rid of their jack-o'-lanterns.
According to the Arizona Game and Fish Department, pumpkins disposed of incorrectly will attract the animals like javelinas.
Mark Hart is a public information officer with the Arizona Game and Fish Department.
He says it is important for people to keep their pumpkin in a safe place.
“We would ask that when they are disposing of their pumpkin to do so in a secure trash can with a lid and to not take their trash out until the day of pickup," he said.
Hart says the javelinas are attracted to the scent of these pumpkins. Bears and mountain lions also are attracted by the pumpkin odor.
Hart advises people to put jack-o'-lanterns in a hard to reach place and out of reach of animals.
