Pinal County votes against expanding hand count of election ballots

Pinal County officials have voted against expanding its full hand count of ballots in next week's election.

The majority of the county’s board of supervisors said they saw no reason to expand its current hand-count audit to include more precincts.

That will leave Cochise County alone if it continues forward with plans to hand count all ballots along with tabulation machines.

Though Pinal County board supervisor Kevin Cavanaugh proposed to at least double the number of precincts to be included in its post election hand count audit, he received little support from the other members.

Kathy Nowak with the Pinal Republican Party spoke against the proposal, saying that hand audits always matched machine tallies.
