Tempe residents may be able to vote on new hockey area, entertainment district

On Nov 10, the Tempe City Council is hosting a meeting to discuss allowing voters to decide the fate of a planned hockey arena and entertainment district near Rio Salado Parkway and Priest Drive.

If approved for the ballot, the proposition would be decided in a special election on May 16. Details of the proposition, including three aspects of the entertainment district, will be discussed at a separate council meeting Nov 29.

The hope is the Arizona Coyotes will move into the hockey arena if approved. This season the Arizona Coyotes play in ASU’s Mullett Arena. The team has a contract to play at the arena through the 2024-25 season.

The Coyotes moved out of their home in Glendale last year due to contract disputes.
