Sonoran officials say they are investigating a case of possible fraud in Rocky Point after an Arizona state representative highlighted the issue in a press conference this week.
State Rep. Walt Blackman held a press conference on Monday with constituents, who say they were defrauded of their oceanfront property in Puerto Peñasco, or Rocky Point.
"There are forty such claims from Arizonans across the state that their property was illegally stolen from them by authorities in that town and by the local government of Puerto Peñasco," Blackman said.
In response, Sonora’s Attorney General's Office announced Tuesday that it is taking action in the case and is committed to the safety of Arizonans and all investors in Sonora.
The prosecutor’s office says it has opened an investigation into possible fraud and falsification of documents, and that they have obtained an arrest warrant for the likely culprit.
Blackman said he wants both Mexican and Arizona officials to look into the situation.
