The U.S. Mint has released the fifth in its series of the American Women Quarters Program. It honors five trailblazing women each year between now and 2025.
The most recent quarter features Anna May Wong, the first Asian American actor to be featured in a Hollywood film, and an advocate for Chinese Americans. Earlier quarters this year have included Sally Ride, Maya Angelou and Wilma Mankiller.
Karen Leong says Wong has, until recently, been known mostly only by film buffs. But that’s starting to change — based in part on her portrayal in the Netflix series, "Hollywood."
Leong is an associate professor of Asian Pacific American studies and women and gender studies in the School of Social Transformation at Arizona State University.
The Show spoke with her to learn more about Wong.
