Unofficial results show two Phoenix City Council members will be reelected while another will face a runoff election.
As of 5 p.m. Thursday, Councilman Jim Waring had secured 52% of the vote in District 2. On election night, it looked like he might face a runoff because no candidate had more than 50%, as required by law. Heli Nielson had 31% and Matt Evans had 18%.
Councilmember Carlos Garcia and challenger Kesha Hodge Washington each had about 40% of the vote in District 8 and will face each other in a March election.
Determining the top two candidates in District 6 for a runoff election could be close. Kevin Robinson has maintained 20% of the vote, followed by Joan Greene and Sam Stone, each with 17% and Moses Sanchez with 16%. Turnout in District 6, which includes parts of central and east Phoenix, along with Ahwatukee, was 55%, the highest of the council races.
Vice Mayor Laura Pastor, who represents District 4, had no challengers.
