Thanksgiving can inspire some to try their hand in the kitchen for the first time, or the first time in a while.
David Folio with the Scottsdale Fire Department says even experienced cooks should prepare for fire and burn hazards.
"When I’m cooking at Thanksgiving, I always have a big, flat baking sheet available because you want to just cover it up," Folio said. "You wanna take the oxygen away from the flames on a grease fire. You don’t wanna throw water on it," Folio said.
Other tips Folio offered include: turn pot and pan handles inward to avoid accidental spills. Also, carefully remove plastic wrap from microwave dishes to avoid steam burns.
