Phoenix Art Museum welcomes first curator dedicated to local art

For the first time, the Phoenix Art Museum is devoting a curator position solely to local art.

Christian Ramírez, who was raised in Tucson and most recently worked for Artpace in San Antonio, Texas, will assume the role.

The Show spoke with her, and she said she hopes to use the position to institutionalize the integration of local art in the museum — though that doesn’t always mean putting local artists’ work on the walls.
