Native chef Mario Etsitty continues millennia-old oral storytelling with Diné creation stories

The tradition of oral storytelling goes back millennia, and on Nov. 30 at Palabras Bookstore in downtown Phoenix, a local chef will be sharing some of his cultures’ oldest tales.

Mario Etsitty is the owner of the Rez An Urban Eatery, a pop-up restaurant that specializes in Native foods. And he grew up listening to his grandfather tell stories about the origins of his people.

He’ll be telling some of those stories to an audience in a series of events at the bookstore that begin Wednesday.

Prior to that, The Show spoke with him to learn about Indigenous oral storytelling.
