A trial began this week for a former Border Patrol agent accused of killing multiple women in Texas.
Juan David Ortiz is a former Border Patrol supervisor who spent a decade with the agency before he was accused of killing four women in the border town of Laredo, Texas, in 2018.
He went to trial on Monday to face four counts of murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful restraint.
That trial coincides with an indictment of another agent in Arizona, where former Customs and Border Protection agent Aaron Mitchell is charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Douglas. The Department of Justice says Mitchell has been indicted on kidnapping and assault charges, and misleading investigators. He is in jail pending trial.
