When you hear the word concussion, a few things likely come to mind — including football, athletes and soldiers who have come back from war.
But there’s another population that has increasingly become part of the conversation surrounding concussions and traumatic brain injury: survivors of domestic violence. And Dr. Glynnis Zieman has been a big part of changing that conversation.
A decade ago, Zieman founded the Domestic Violence Brain Injury Program at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, working to identify and treat people who have suffered domestic violence, which often involves traumatic brain injury.
The Show spoke with her to learn about the program and how far they’ve come.
