The Arizona Republican Party is continuing to challenge a 1991 law that allows anyone to ask for and receive an early ballot for elections.
During a hearing Wednesday, attorney Alexander Kolodin told the state Court of Appeals that all voting needs to be done in a way to protect privacy and that can only be done at an official polling place.
He also argued there is no way to ensure early votes were not sold or cast under intimidation. But an attorney for Secretary of State Katie Hobbs said there are laws in place that prohibit such activities, and those laws fulfill constitutional requirements for secrecy.
Yet another law allows voters to get help from someone else while filling out a ballot. Appellate Judge David Gass said what the GOP wants would preclude even that.
No date is set for the ruling.
