Gas is cheaper than a year ago across much of U.S. but not in parts of AZ

The average cost per gallon of regular unleaded gas is now lower than a year ago.

That’s true for the national average at $3.83 but depends where you live in the state, according to AAA Arizona spokesperson Julian Paredes.

“Gas prices have definitely tumbled since Thanksgiving. National prices have dropped more than 25 cents in just a little bit over a week. The most expensive gas is in Coconino County with averages around $3.98 and the cheapest is still in Pima County at $3.29,” he said.

Paredes added that the fall in prices is attributed to decreased demand from since summer and an increase in refining.

Diesel fuel remains high, however, as the national average price per gallon is $5.36.
