AZ sees slight uptick in unemployment in November, yet continues to add jobs

Arizona’s unemployment rate continued to rise in November, registering a slight increase to 4.1%. That is up 0.2% from October.

Despite the increase, Arizona added more than 26,000 jobs in the private sector last month alone and more than 100,000 this year.

Doug Walls is the Labor Market Information Director with the state’s Office of Economic Opportunity.

"It is coming at a little bit slower than the sixth-month average change for labor force on a month-to-month basis. We’ll have to see if that was just a one off month or if that’s where we are starting to see potentially a slow down in labor force gains," Walls said.

Walls added that some of the biggest employment gains were in trade, transportation and utilities, and government and education.
