Hundreds of fans were turned away from a reggaetón superstar’s concert in Mexico City over the weekend because their tickets turned out to be fake. Mexico’s president is now asking the Puerto Rican rapper to give another concert.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador wants Bad Bunny to come back to Mexico City to perform in the capital’s central plaza, or Zocalo — for free.
He said the government couldn't pay the singer, and he knows the Puerto Rican star is busy, but he thinks Bad Bunny will be sympathetic to the plight of Mexican fans who were cheated out of the experience of seeing his show.
The unusual request comes after hundreds of fans were barred from entering Bad Bunny’s sold-out concert Friday night because their tickets were fake.
Ticketmasterhas promised full refundsfor those whose tickets were purchased through official channels, but Mexico’s consumer protection agency (PROFECO) says it may impose additional fines on the company, which it claims oversold tickets. The head of the agency, Ricardo Sheffield, said his office had received more than 1,600 related complaints as of Saturday.
The controversy comes amid backlash over Ticketmaster’s chaotic November rollout of presale tickets for Taylor Swift’s upcoming tour.
The mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, has supported the idea of a free Bad Bunny concert, saying she is in conversations to make such a thing possible.
