Mexico’s president to tout clean energy efforts in Sonora to North American counterparts

Sun- and lithium-rich Sonora has come to figure prominently in Mexico's clean energy plans.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador says he will sit down with U.S. President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during the North American Leaders’ Summit next month in Mexico. One part of the agenda will be the Plan Sonora.

The plan involves the promotion of clean energy technologies in the northern Mexican state, famous for its intense sun and solar energy potential, as well as its enormous — though still largely unexploited — lithium deposits. López Obrador also is hopeful that Sonora could become a major site of electric vehicle battery manufacturing.
