The Show recently heard from the ACLU of Arizona, which is suing the city of Phoenix over its so-called sweeps of the area known as "The Zone," the largest homeless encampment in the state in downtown Phoenix.
The city resumed its cleanings of the area Dec. 16, but with some new protocols in place after a judge’s ruling in the lawsuit that put some protections in place for the unsheltered people living there.
There is also an investigation into the city’s treatment of these people by the Department of Justice and another lawsuit against the city from business owners in the area who say it is unsafe.
For more on the city’s new approach to the area, The Show spoke with Scott Hall, the deputy director of the Office of Homeless Solutions.
