One of the largest coal producers in the country has sued a major freight railroad, alleging it breached a contract to transport coal overseas.
The Navajo Nation Transitional Energy Company is alleging BNSF Railway cost it $150 million in lost revenue this year and $15 million in charges.
The energy service says the problem was that the railway did not load coal in a timely manner onto ships headed to Korea and Japan.
BNSF has struggled to deliver products on time due to workplace shortages from the pandemic.
The energy company says BNSF made no indications it couldn't handle the shipping order.
Furthermore it claims the railway is abusing monopolistic power.
