Mexico is implementing a new program meant to better coordinate health care across the country, and it’s being piloted in Sonora.
Dubbed the state interagency health command, the new agency is meant to encourage better coordination between local, state and federal systems to improve healthcare and disease prevention.
It’s a new office that federal leaders hope to implement nationwide — but the first command opened this week in Sonora as a pilot program.
Mexico’s Deputy Health Secretary Hugo Lopez-Gatell arrived in the state to install the newly created office, saying it was chosen for being forward thinking.
The command office will begin by carrying out a comprehensive evaluation on health services in Sonora, he says, and eventually implement new strategies to improve and standardize care in the state.
