Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the Buckeye Elementary School district and its superintendent.

The suit follows a report from the Arizona Auditor General which found the district paid superintendent Kristi Wilson about $3.3 million from July 2016 to December 2021.

According to the attorney general’s office, she was not entitled to about half a million of that amount.

The auditor general also found that Wilson was compensated double the amount of what the state’s three largest districts paid their superintendents on average.

The suit seeks to force Wilson to return any funds the Buckeye district paid her that was in violation of her employment contract.
