9 people killed Thursday as violence rages on in Guaymas, Sonora

Nine people were killed in a coastal Sonoran town Thursday that has seen growing violence in recent months.

Shootouts claimed the lives of at least nine men and left several injured as violence broke out in various parts of Guaymas - home to the popular beach town of San Carlos, where two of the nine were murdered.

The port city has seen repeated displays of violence in recent months - several have forced children to hide under their desksas bullets fly outside of schools. And more murder cases have been recorded there in 2022 than in any other year since at least 2015. Officials blame fighting between criminal groups.

At least two others were reported killed in shootouts in the city on Friday.
