In an executive order in her first day of office, Gov. Katie Hobbs provided more protections against discrimination in state agencies.
The order directs state agencies to eliminate all barriers restricting employment that are not directly related to the job. The expansion includes gender identity, political affiliation and marital status.
Murphy Hebert is a press aide for Hobbs.
“This EO is one step she's taking to ensure that everyone in Arizona knows that she is the governor for everyone and that these communities can and will be safe," Hebert said.
The order extends protections to state employees and those who work for companies contracted with the state.
