Arizona egg prices are soaring. Here's why

It doesn’t take an eagle-eyed shopper to notice that egg prices are soaring in Arizona.

An outbreak of bird flu is behind the nearly 50% rise in price, according to Julie Murphree with the Arizona Farm Bureau.

“We actually have a really good chunk of our eggs that are coming from our local growers, like Hickman’s, like Rose Acres,” Murphree said. “We have two major egg producers in the state of Arizona.”

Murphree says while bird flu hasn’t hit local farms, the supply chain disruption the outbreak has caused means the shortage is still felt here.
