President Biden signs 3 bills aiming to expand water access to tribes in AZ

President Joe Biden signed three bills Thursday aimed at improving access to water for three tribes in Arizona.

One of the measures grants the Hualapai Tribe about 3,400 acre feet of Colorado River water every year and will allow the tribe to lease that water as well.

One acre-foot is enough to supply about two households for a year.

Another bill allows the Colorado River Indian Tribes based in Parker the ability to lease water from the river as well.

The final bill amends a water rights settlement for the White Mountain Apache Tribe in Eastern Arizona from more than a decade ago.

It allows for additional funding and extends deadlines to complete a rural water system and dam.
