An Arizona nonprofit recently received $10 million to tackle homelessness in Maricopa County. The funds come from President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan, an economic stimulus bill.
Human Services Campus is receiving the money after proposing ways the organization would help the county’s unsheltered population back. Amy Schwabenlender is the group’s executive director.
“We’re working on ideas that we have that would be to add sprung structures and other geographic locations around the Valley, to do more of that bridge housing, using motel rooms and to expand our multidisciplinary street outreach team," she said.
While funds will not be directly used for operations at the Human Services Campus, Schwabenlender said the money would allow the team to help sheltered individuals across the county.
