Phoenix Police Department to take public input on Use of Force Policy

The Phoenix Police Department is updating its Use of Force Policy and will be looking for public input on major policy revisions.

The public comment period will take place during the last two weeks of January.

A draft copy of the policy is already available for review.

Following the comment period on general policies and core principles, the department will amend remaining sections.

It will also look for further comment on force options, reporting requirements and intervention duties in the near future.

The Department of Justice is investigating the use of force by Phoenix police officers and whether the department engages in discriminatory policy.
