Yet another Arizona city is implementing new rules for short-term rentals. Tempe is joining cities like Peoria and Scottsdalein requiring property owners to get a license and notify their neighbors.
Beginning March 6, owners of short-term rental properties in Tempe will have to get a business license and pay an annual $250 fee. They’ll also have to give all nearby residences their emergency contact information.
Similar to ordinances put in place by other cities, this one requires that sex offender background checks be conducted on anyone booking the rental. Owners who don’t comply will be subject to fines.
These changes come on the heels of a state senate bill that gave cities more control over short-term rentals in their area.
The idea is to cut down on loud parties at Airbnbs and have a better system for tracking complaints.
