The Phoenix Symphony announced that Peter Kjome would serve as the organization’s next president and CEO. Once a professional oboist for many years, Kjome previously worked with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra.
Kjome spoke about his potential duties and responsibilities joining the organization.
“One of the things that we’ll be working on together is to think about how we can continue the symphony’s important work but then also continue to be an innovative and dynamic organization and think about new ways to serve the community," he said.
He stressed the importance of forming a partnership with the community, including through education programs and engagement initiatives.
Kjome also said one of the actions he would take in his latest role is to listen to others, including members of the orchestra.
“Hearing their perspective and seeking to understand what is important to members of the orchestra will be one of the very important things that I do as we get started," he said.
Kjome’s appointment begins in February.
