Winter storm leaves parts of northern AZ in more than foot of snow

A winter snowstorm that blanketed parts of northern Arizona with more than a foot of snow, and it’s not over yet.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning that wasn’t expected to expire until late Tuesday night, and flurries were still falling across Flagstaff earlier in the day.

Paige Swenson is a meteorologist with the Weather Service.

"As we reach the end of the week, Thursday afternoon into Friday, we are expecting another system to come through which could bring an additional 1 to 5 inches of snow to the Flagstaff area," she said.

Snow and rain have helped with drought conditions across the state. Only small portions of Arizona remain in severe drought conditions. Meanwhile, the Arizona Department of Transportation warns that highways in the area are closed down.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The headline has been updated to correct the amount of snow.
