Mark Finchem is sending out requests to pay off the debt from his failed attempt to become Arizona secretary of state last year.
Except that debt doesn’t exist in his campaign finance records.
In an email, Finchem asked people to donate up to $100 or more to “stand with election integrity.”
But it ends with a disclosure that the money will supposedly help pay off campaign debt.
Except campaign finance reports from a day before the plea shows no debt, and he has close to $100,000 on hand.
Furthermore, Finchem does not have any apparent legal expenses, as the state Supreme Court threw out his request for review for not being in proper form.
Finchem never resubmitted his request.
He may have future financial obligations. Gov. Katie Hobbs and Secretary of State Adrian Fontes have asked a judge to award them legal fees for his lawsuit against them.
