Court denies Rio Verde Foothills a temporary stay in ongoing water controversy

Residents of Rio Verde Foothills received another blow over the weekend in their fight to obtain water from the city of Scottsdale. The unincorporated community sits outside Scottsdale city limits and has been left without water since the city turned off its taps at the beginning of the year — a move it had warned residents was coming.

They had sought an injunction from the court to make Scottsdale temporarily provide water to the community via private haulers, arguing the people there are in crises and couldn’t wait. But, a Maricopa County Superior Court judge sided with the city, marking a win for Scottsdale as it has faced growing pressure from residents and lawmakers to turn the taps for Rio Verde back on.

Sasha Hupka, who has been covering the saga for the Arizona Republic, joined The Show Here to talk about the ruling and what’s next for Rio Verde.
