The city of Tucson is inviting the public to comment on a newly-released draft plan on fighting climate change.
Plans to create the document began in 2020. That’s when city leaders said Tucson was among the nation’s fastest-warming cities and declared a climate emergency. They called on ramping up efforts to adapt to climate change with things like transitioning out of producing and using fossil fuels.
The city released a draft version of the 10-year Climate Action and Adaptation Plan this month. It calls for reaching carbon neutrality across city operations by 2030 and reaching the same community-wide by 2045, and outlines how the city will use different water sources to supplement an increasingly scant Colorado River supply, among other goals.
Public comments are accepted until Feb. 21.
