Arizona’s Department of Revenue says it has more than $2 billion in unclaimed property belonging to people who live — or have lived — in the state. Some of the items are on the auction block.
Items on sale come from abandoned safe deposit boxes. They include a variety of jewelry and rare U.S. and foreign currency. The online public auction contains more than a thousand options, including a 1980 Mayfair High School class ring and a collection of baseball cards, going back to a 1961 Topps card featuring Willie Mays.
When the online public auction closes Sunday at 5 p.m., items will be sold "as is" to the highest bidder. Proceeds go to an account for rightful owners to claim. In the last fiscal year, the Revenue Department says more than $47 million was paid out.

People must provide documentation showing their right to claim the property. That means a valid photo ID, like a driver’s license or other applicable identification, and documentation linking them to the owner’s last known address, as reported by the company that filed the unclaimed property.
