A controlled burn is planned for Pinal County this week

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management is planning to conduct a controlled burn this week in Pinal County.

Scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, the one-day burn is intended to reduce debris from a similar operation last year.

The Lost Dutchman RX Burn operation is planned for a 36-acre area about four miles northeast of Apache Junction, and south of the Goldfield Ghost Town. Smoke coming from the burn may affect State Route 88.

Last year, the department collaborated with the Bureau of Land Management to reduce potential fire fuel in the area. And Tuesday’s burn is intended to clear debris piles left over from that operation.

The agency says prescribed burns are dependent on weather conditions and may be canceled or rescheduled.
