At 14 years old, Brad Onishi converted to Christianity, joining a sect of Evangelical believers who he now says are part of a growing subculture in America that has taken a dangerous turn.
Onishi is now a religion scholar who studies Christian nationalism and the co-host of the Straight White American Jesus podcast.
While most of the world was shocked by the violent events of Jan. 6, Onishi was not.
He says to those who have lived in the world of white Christian nationalists, Jan. 6 wasn’t an aberration, but the logical outcome of a decades-old war on American democracy. The Show spoke with him about it.
