Plan Sonora would turn state into hub of clean energy technologies and generation

Top Mexican officials and diplomatic representatives recently met in Rocky Point to discuss an ambitious energy and development plan.

The basic goal of the Plan Sonora is to turn the northern Mexican state into a hub of clean energy technologies and generation.

Construction is currently underway in Rocky Point on what will be one of the largest solar installations in the world. Dozens of diplomats representing countries around the world came to the beach town to learn more about the plan.

“Sonora is going to be a reference point for what the economic development model for the country should be in coming years,” said Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard.

The plan for the state also involves the mining of vast lithium reserves, and a number of major infrastructure projects.
