NFL selects Pat Tillman Foundation scholars for Super Bowl coin toss

Scholars from the Pat Tillman Foundation named after former Arizona Cardinals defensive player Pat Tillman will serve as honorary coin toss captains for the Super Bowl on Sunday. The foundation supports veterans and military spouses in their educational and leadership pursuits.

Dan Futrell is the foundation’s CEO.

“On Sunday, right after the national anthem, we’ve got four scholars who are veterans and military spouses who will be on the field next to both teams as they toss the coin and figure out who’s going to toss and receive first," he said.

Futrell said the coin toss event would highlight the work of the scholars and the service of Tillman, who left his football career to enlist in the U.S. Army after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
