The week opens with nice weather in metro Phoenix on Monday and a slight chance of showers.
However, residents should prepare for a stronger chance of rain by mid-week.
"What most people will notice is a big increase in wind speeds on Wednesday, could see winds gusting 30 to 40 miles per hour across the metro with some localized areas of blowing dust," said Mark O’Malley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix.
O’Malley also recommended not traveling to northern Arizona as the very strong winds will create dangerous driving conditions. He said cold temperatures and snowfall between four to 8 inches are predicted for that region.
Mainly tranquil conditions along with near to slightly above normal temperatures will prevail through early next week. A potent storm system mid-week next week will bring an increased potential for precipitation as well as good chances for strong winds and blowing dust. #azwx pic.twitter.com/HyQEHzBN15
