Griner and Taurasi are back, but questions surround the Phoenix Mercury's 2023 season

Over the weekend, the Phoenix Mercury re-signed two longtime cornerstones of the franchise in Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi.

Griner, who was released from a Russian prison in December, inked a one-year deal with the Mercury. She posted on social media soon after her release that she planned to play for the team this year.

The Mercury also retained their star point guard, Diana Taurasi, on a multi-year contract. The WNBA’s all-time leading scorer will play in her 19th season, but has struggled to stay on the court in recent years.

On Feb. 26, the Mercury announced that guard Shey Peddy re-upped with the team as well. Peddy had a career best 2022 season, averaging nearly 10 points per game.

Cassandra Negley, women’s basketball writer for Yahoo Sports, joined The Show to talk about the moves and what they mean for the upcoming season and beyond.
