AMLO: Water shortage makes Nuevo Leon poor site for Tesla factory

Mexico’s president is warning that water shortages could complicate a proposed Tesla factory in northeastern Mexico.

Asked about the prospect of a factory in Nuevo Leon, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said the state is struggling with water shortages.

Last summer, the capital and largest city made international headlineswhen taps went dry and many residents struggled to access drinking water. There is no water in Nuevo Leon, López Obrador said, when pressed on whether the state was an appropriate site for the factory.

In response to the president’s comments, state officials in Nuevo Leon reportedlypushed back, saying the state does have sufficient water.
