Pro-asylum alliance launches portal to leave comments for the government

A pro-asylum coalition is organizing pushback on a proposed United States plan to generally deny asylum to migrants who come here without first seeking protection in a country they passed through.

The alliance called Welcome With Dignity has launched a webpage portal for submitting comments directly to the government.

Law requires the Biden administration to read and respond to all comments in writing in the Federal Register.

“When else do you get to make sure that someone from the government is going to read what you think,” said Bilal Askaryar, interim campaign manager.

If approved, Biden’s plan will put severe limits on asylum for anyone except Mexicans because they don’t have to go through a third country to reach the U.S.
