Tempe receives designation as a Certified Autism Center

The city of Tempe is now recognized as a Certified Autism Center. The designation comes from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards.

The city partnered with the board to train Tempe employees on how to better support people with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Samantha Mason is coordinator for the city’s adaptive recreation program.

“Our relationship with them is phenomenal. They have been so incredibly supportive and engaging throughout this whole entire experience," she said.

Mason said the city aims to become a Certified Autism City, which recognizes communities where businesses and other groups are trained to serve people with Autism. Mesa received this designation in 2019.
