The National Park Service recently released visitation numbers for last year, and one Arizona park was the second most visited in the nation.
The Grand Canyon had nearly 5 million visitors last year, which put it slightly ahead of Zion National Park in Utah and on track to get back to pre-pandemic levels.
One reason for the increase is growth in international travel, which virtually dried up during the pandemic.
And with travelers on spring break filling up lodging on the South Rim, park spokeswoman Joelle Baird said another year of high traffic could be in the works.
"It’s looking to be a busy spring," Baird said. "I would imagine, so, we’re anticipating it will be similar to last year, and maybe even busier.
Before the pandemic, the park saw about 6 million visitors annually.
