What new numbers say about Arizona's hotel industry

A national hospitality trade group expects tax revenue generated from hotels to hit new highs this year.

The American Hotel and Lodging Association also finds hotel occupancies to be near pre-pandemic levels. The group predicts Arizona to see a 15% increase in tax revenue from 2019, higher than the national average.

But staffing will likely continue to be a problem for hotels nationwide. Arizona is expected to have nearly 12% fewer employees this year than in 2019, slightly higher than the national average.

To break down the data, The Show talked with Kathleen Andereck, a professor in the School of Community Resources and Development at Arizona State University.
